Reannouncement of Safety Recall for Dehumidifiers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging consumers to check if they have a recalled Comfort-Aire dehumidifier, 30 pint model BHD-301-C. These dehumidifiers pose a serious fire and burn hazard. The dehumidifiers were first recalled in December 2009; because of lack of consumer response the recall is being reannounced. Anyone who has a recalled dehumidifier should immediately stop using it, unplug it, and contact the manufacturer as shown below.
Serial numbers affected: 611TA000001-001697; 612TA000001-004200; 701TA000001-000578; 710TA000001-000599.

Changes to the Federal Tax Credit for Energy Efficiency
The Federal law passed in 2010 that covers Federal Tax Credits modified and extended these tax credits on qualifying, high efficiency HVAC equipment through December 31, 2011. All equipment certified by this act must be placed in service after December 31, 2010, and before January 1, 2012, in a homeowner's primary residence. This equipment must meet the criteria of "Qualified Energy Property" per Section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code.
Geothermal heat pump tax credits and solar water heaters are unaffected by the changes and remain in place through Dec. 31, 2016. However, there are important changes to be aware of going forward. Here are some key points:
The maximum amount an eligible homeowner may receive in tax credits for purchasing qualifying products will be reduced from $1,500 to $500, whether those purchases are in the form of upgraded insulation, windows, HVAC equipment or other eligible improvements. Note that there is a maximum amount allowed per product type, not the previous credit of 30% of the qualifying costs.
Homeowners who have already claimed credits of $500 or more from improvements made prior to 2011 are unable to claim new credits for improvements made during 2011.
Natural gas/propane/oil furnaces: 95% AFUE--$150 max. credit
Split system A/C including mini-splits: 16 SEER /13 EER--$300 max.
Split system heat pumps including mini-splits: 15 SEER /12.5 EER /8 HSPF-$300 max.
Package A/C: 14 SEER/ 12 EER; Package heat pumps: 14 SEER / 12 EER / 8 HSPF--$300 max.
Package gas/electric: 14 SEER / 12 EER--Max. $300

Geothermal training schedule
Increasing interest in geothermal and water source systems is reflected in the increased demand for training. Heat Controller has been doing its part to meet that increased demand with its two-day geothermal/water source training course, which is certified for continuing education credits through NATE.
Classes for 2012 are limited and filling up, so distributors, contractors and any other interested party must act fast to take part in the course.
CLASS SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS:

A $300 registration fee is due in advance (50% of the cost can be charged to co-op). Classes fill up quickly, so registration forms should be submitted as soon as possible (space is limited to 16-20 students per session)
